Derived from the French term "mise-en-scène", this is a film club centred around the celebration of film, not just as a form of escapism, but as a communal experience that is often experienced by many alone.
And although we may be surrounded by others in the cinema, eating away at our popcorn as we collectively immerse ourselves into the worlds portrayed on the screen, the very act of going to the cinema for some is a solitary one or an occasional hangout spot for friends...and that's something I'd like to change.
So by meeting up monthly, I hope to encourage local cinephiles in Birmingham to connect through our mutual love for cinema! And I hope to build a community of passionate moviegoers that will help to support local cinemas in the city through our regular visits to their venues.
So if this sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, check out our upcoming events below and follow us on Instagram to join our community of film enthusiasts in Birmingham!

Hi, everyone! My name is Ruth and I'm the founder of this Birmingham-based film club.
I've been passionate about cinema every since I was young and watched Pacific Rim in 2013. I know that's not a 'classic' pick as a cinephile, but I don't care, I love it and Guillermo del Toro is an amazing director!
However, I did start to broaden my knowledge on film in 2020 when I first watched 'Gone With the Wind' and I've been in love with Old Hollywood movies ever since.
Soon after, I began to watch foreign cinema from, South Korea, China, India, and I became enamoured with the beauty and differences each industry brought to filmmaking.
But I would like to meet more people in Birmingham who love film just as much as I do, not only just to make friends and connections, but to learn from others and gain a deeper understanding of cinema!
